Who Sets the Tree Rules in Prairie View
Prairie View isn't a village. Most of it is unincorporated Lake County, and pieces have been annexed into the towns around it over the years. So before a tree comes out, figure out who governs your address. Your property tax bill will tell you.
If you're inside a village, check with that village hall. If you're unincorporated, check with the county. Many places around here have tree rules, and some require a permit before a removal, even on private property. We don't recite anyone's ordinance. Make that call first, then text us.
Prairie View Lots: Old Yards by the Tracks, Newer Streets Around Them
The original part of Prairie View sits along Main Street near the Metra station. Older houses, and older trees to go with them. That's where you tend to find the big stuff: mature silver maples, oaks, and spruce that were planted small and now fill the front yard.
Around that core are newer streets that look a lot like the Buffalo Grove neighborhoods next door. Subdivision lots with maples, honey locust, ornamental pear and whatever replaced the ash. Different yards, different jobs. An old yard usually means a bigger tree and a tighter way in. A newer one usually means a smaller tree planted too close to the house.
Tree Removal in Prairie View
Old trees on old lots are the hard removals. The trunk is wide, the canopy is over two or three things you care about, and there's a garage or a fence right where you'd want it to fall. So it doesn't fall. It's taken apart from the top, and the pieces come down where there's room. Big tree removal like that always starts with a free visit, because photos don't show everything.
Smaller trees are simpler. The pear that split. The spruce that browned out. The maple lifting the front walk. Most of those we can price from a few photos. And if what you've got is standing dead, ash or anything else, move it up your list. Taking out a dead tree is easier before the wood gets brittle than after.
Pruning Oaks, Maples and Evergreens in Prairie View
Big old trees don't need much, but they need it done right. Dead wood out. Broken stubs cut back clean. Limbs lifted off the roof and away from the chimney. We cut back to a branch or the trunk and leave the tree looking like a tree. Nobody on our crew tops trees. Flat-topping is how a decent maple turns into a problem.
Schedule oak pruning for winter. From spring into early fall, a fresh cut on an oak pulls in the beetles that carry oak wilt. Elms follow the same rule. Most other trees also do best trimmed dormant, late fall through winter. The exception is anything dead, cracked or hanging. For that, taking off a hazardous limb happens whenever it's needed.
Stump Grinding in Prairie View
Grinding takes a stump down below the surface so the spot can be filled, leveled and seeded. Having a stump ground works for one stump or a row of them, and it's a job we can usually quote from a photo. Put a shovel or a boot next to it so we can judge the size.
Older properties are the ones with surprises underground. Before we grind, utilities get marked through JULIE. It's free, and the number is 811. If you know about an old drain tile, a septic line or a buried wire out to the garage, tell us about that too. Private lines don't get marked.
Storm Damage and Emergency Tree Work in Prairie View
Mature trees and summer wind are how most storm calls start. If a tree or a big limb is on your house, your car or across your driveway, pick up the phone and call (224) 944-8652. Texts are for jobs that can wait. We work storm calls as fast as the crew can get to them, and we won't quote you a clock.
Stay back from any tree that's touching a power line. That's ComEd's problem before it's ours, and we don't work in or touching the lines. Once it's safe, our storm crew gets the tree off whatever it hit and cleans up the rest.
Free Quotes and Flat-Price Tree Work
Here's the whole process. One, text a photo of the tree, limb or stump and say you're in Prairie View. Two, get a written price. Three, pick a day. Four, we show up, do the work, clean up and haul it away. Quotes cost nothing, and the price is one flat figure you agree to before any cutting.
We don't post prices because the tree decides the price. Its size. Standing in the open, or over a roof, fence, garage or wires. Sound or dead. Easy to reach or not. Stump staying or going. If you want the reasoning, read what goes into a tree quote.
Cleanup and Hauling After the Job
We leave with everything we cut unless you ask us not to. Brush gets chipped, wood gets recycled, and the yard gets raked. Illinois doesn't let yard waste go to the landfill, which is fine by us. If you heat with wood or just like a fire pit, tell us and the wood stays, cut, in the spot you pick.
The crew is insured and works out of Libertyville, Monday through Saturday 7am to 7pm, Sunday by appointment. We cover all of Lake County, including Lincolnshire's wooded lots just east of here.
