Tree Service for Barrington Hills Estates and Acreage

Barrington Hills is spread across four counties, Lake, Cook, Kane and McHenry, and it doesn't look like the suburbs around it. Lots are measured in acres. There are barns, paddocks, riding trails and a lot of open ground between houses. Spring Creek Forest Preserve covers a big stretch of the Cook County side.

The trees are a mix of old woods and open-grown giants. Bur oaks and white oaks standing alone in a field, with limbs as long as some trees are tall. Hickory and walnut in the fence rows. Spruce and pine windbreaks. Willows and cottonwoods by the ponds and creeks. Dead ash scattered through all of it.

We serve Lake County. The village crosses county lines, so text your address with your photo and we'll tell you if you're in our area.

Large Tree Removal in Barrington Hills

An oak that grew up in the open is wide, heavy and built differently from a forest tree. When one dies or splits, removing a tree that size is a real project. We come look at it first, at no charge, before any price gets written down.

Sometimes there's room to lay a tree down in a field, and that's the simplest job there is. Sometimes it's right over the barn, the fence or the house, and it has to come apart piece by piece. Same tree, very different day.

Dead ash is worth going after where it can hurt something. Emerald ash borer killed most of the untreated ash in northern Illinois, and the dead wood gets brittle quickly. Along a driveway, a riding trail or a pasture fence, dead ash removal shouldn't wait.

Fallen Trees, Blocked Driveways and Storm Work

When your driveway runs a long way through the trees, one down across it means nobody gets in or out. Call for that. Same if a tree is on the house, a vehicle or a building. Texting is for quotes. We get to storm calls as fast as the crew can, and we'll be straight with you about timing instead of promising one.

A tree across a pasture fence is its own kind of urgent if there are horses behind it. Tell us that when you call. And if any wire is involved, stay away and get ComEd out first. Then we'll handle cutting up the fallen tree and clearing the mess.

Tree Trimming and Crown Raising in Barrington Hills

Trimming here is mostly about clearance and deadwood. Raising limbs over the driveway so trucks and trailers fit under. Cutting back what's leaning on the fence. Taking dead tops out of trees over the paddock or the trail before they fall on their own. Raising the crown on a row of driveway trees makes a big difference.

Oaks have a season. Don't prune them from spring through early fall, because fresh cuts bring in the beetles that spread oak wilt, and nobody wants that in a field of old oaks. Winter is the time. Elms too. Most everything else is also best trimmed dormant. Broken and hazardous limbs can go any time.

We prune trees. We don't top them, and we don't cable or brace them.

Stump Grinding on Barrington Hills Properties

On acreage, not every stump needs grinding. In a tree line or the woods, cutting it low is usually enough. In a lawn, a paddock or anywhere you mow or ride, grinding the stump down gets rid of the thing a mower deck or a hoof can find.

Utilities get marked first. JULIE does that for free when you call 811. On a big property there's often more private line in the ground than public: electric out to the barn, water to a hydrant, the septic system. JULIE doesn't mark those, so show us what you know.

Tree Permits in Barrington Hills

Many villages in Lake County have tree rules, and some require a permit to remove a tree even on private land. Having a lot of land doesn't always mean having no rules. Check with village hall before the work is scheduled.

If the tree is on a shared lot line or along a road, find out who owns it first. We only cut what's yours to cut.

Quotes and Pricing for Barrington Hills Tree Work

Text a photo of the tree, limb or stump and tell us your town. For small stuff, you'll get a written price from the photos. For big removals, and there are plenty of those out here, we set up a free visit.

Price comes down to the tree's size, where it stands, its condition, access for equipment and whether the stump is included. Distance from the driveway counts as access. A tree at the far end of a wet field is harder to reach than one by the garage. You get one flat price, and it's agreed before a single cut. More on how a job gets priced.

Hauling, Cleanup and Firewood for Acreage

We clean up and haul away the brush and wood. Illinois won't take yard waste at the landfill, so the brush is chipped and the logs go to be recycled. Want the oak or hickory for the wood stove? We'll leave it cut where you tell us.

The crew is insured, based in Libertyville, and works Monday through Saturday, 7am to 7pm, Sundays by appointment. We also cover the village of Barrington and Lake Barrington to the north.

Barrington Hills Tree Service Questions

Can you work around horses and pasture fence?

Yes, with a little planning. Let us know which pastures have animals in them and where the gates are. It's best to move horses out of the paddock we're working in, since saws and falling wood spook them. If a tree is already down on the fence, tell us when you call so it's handled with that in mind.

The tree is a long way from the driveway. Can you still get to it?

Usually. Send photos of the tree and of the ground between it and the nearest drive or lane. Wet fields, creek crossings, gates and slopes all matter. Where equipment can't go, the work is done by hand and the wood is carried out, and the price reflects that. For a large tree we come walk the route first, free.

Do I have to grind every stump on my property?

No. Out in a tree line or the woods, a stump cut low to the ground can stay and nobody will miss it. Grinding makes sense where you mow, drive, ride or turn animals out. Tell us which stumps you want ground when you ask for the quote, and we'll price only those.

Can you clear a tree that fell across a riding trail?

If it's on your land, yes. Text a photo and tell us how far it is from where a truck can get. If the trail crosses a neighbor's property or a forest preserve, the owner needs to make that call. A tree hung up in other trees over a trail is dangerous, so keep riders away from it until it's down.

An old open-grown oak dropped a huge limb. Does the whole tree have to go?

Not necessarily. We don't diagnose trees, but we can clean up the break with a proper cut, remove the fallen limb and take out other dead wood while we're up there. If the trunk is split or hollow where it broke, removal may be the safer choice. Send photos of the break and the whole tree.

Can you clear dead trees out of a whole fence row?

Yes. Send photos along the row and tell us which trees you want gone: the dead ash, the leaners, the ones growing into the wire. We'll come walk it, since a job like that needs a look in person. You'll get one flat written price for the lot of it, and the visit is free.

Can you prune the trees along my driveway in summer?

It depends what they are. Oaks and elms wait for winter, because summer cuts attract the beetles that spread disease. Most other trees can be trimmed in summer but do better while dormant, late fall through winter. Dead, broken or hazardous limbs are the exception. Those can come off any time of year, on any tree.

A tree is leaning toward the power line along my road. Will you cut it?

Our crew stays out of power lines, and that includes anything touching them. If a tree is on or tangled in a line, ComEd comes first. For a tree that's just near a line, send a photo so we can see how close it is. Sometimes the power company has to deal with the line before we can touch the tree.
