Beach Park Lots: Wide Yards and Back-Lot Woods
Much of Beach Park feels more like country than suburb. Many streets have ditches and gravel shoulders in place of curbs. Houses sit back from the road and the trees run right up to them. Out back it's common to have a strip of woods nobody planted: cottonwood, boxelder, wild cherry, elm, a few good oaks, and a lot of dead ash.
Lyons Woods Forest Preserve is on the south edge by the Waukegan line, and Illinois Beach State Park runs along the lake side, so this is wooded ground to begin with. Plenty of lot lines also have a row of spruce or pine put in for privacy, and many of those rows are tall and crowded now.
Dead Tree and Ash Tree Removal in Beach Park
If you've got a wooded back lot here, there's a good chance you have dead ash in it. Emerald ash borer killed most of the untreated ash in Lake County. The ones still standing have been dead a while, and dead ash goes brittle fast.
Deep in the woods, where it can't hit anything, a dead tree can fall over on its own schedule. The ones to worry about lean toward the house, the shed, the swing set, the fence or the road. Walk the back line, pick out the ones that could reach something, and text us photos. Dead ash removal goes better as one planned job than as a string of storm calls.
Other dead trees get the same treatment. A dead elm or cottonwood over the driveway belongs on the list, and clearing out dead trees together beats waiting for each one to fail.
Tree Removal Around Sheds, Fences and Wires
A bigger lot doesn't always mean an easier job. The tree that worries you is usually the one closest to something. A silver maple with a limb over the bedroom. An oak leaning toward the detached garage. A spruce row that's grown up into the wires feeding the house.
For a full tree removal in a spot like that, the tree comes down in pieces, top first, with each one lowered clear of whatever's below. Trees with open ground around them come down quicker. If the tree is into the wires between the pole and your house, the crew doesn't touch that part. ComEd is the electric utility here, and the lines are theirs.
Beach Park Tree Trimming and Crown Raising
On a wide lot, trimming is often about headroom. Limbs hang low over the driveway, scrape the roof of the truck, or block your view pulling out onto Sheridan Road or Lewis Avenue. Raising the crown, which just means taking off the lowest limbs, fixes that and leaves the tree looking like a tree.
The rest is cleanup: dead wood out, broken stubs cut back clean, limbs off the roof. Trimming and pruning is best done while the tree is dormant, from late fall through winter. Oaks and elms shouldn't be pruned in the growing season at all unless a limb has broken, since fresh cuts pull in the beetles that spread oak wilt. With the number of oaks around here, that's a rule worth following.
One thing you won't get is a topped tree. Cutting the top off flat is bad practice and the crew doesn't do it.
Storm Damage and Fallen Trees in Beach Park
Close to the lake and full of tall, soft-wooded trees, Beach Park loses limbs in most big storms. Cottonwoods and silver maples shed the most. A spruce can go over whole when the ground is saturated.
Tree on the house, on a vehicle, or across the driveway? Call (224) 944-8652. Don't text that one. The crew handles storm calls as fast as it can get there, with no promised time. A tree down in the back woods that isn't on anything can wait for a regular quote. Either way, a fallen tree gets cut up and hauled.
If lines are down, or a tree is leaning into them, stay well back and call ComEd before you call anybody else.
Stump Grinding in Beach Park
Stumps out in the back woods can stay. Stumps in the lawn, by the driveway, or where you want a garden are worth grinding. Stump grinding takes the stump below the surface so the spot can be filled in and seeded.
Before grinding, underground utilities have to be located. The call goes to JULIE at 811, and there's no charge. Tell us about any private lines JULIE wouldn't know about too, like a wire you ran out to a shed or a yard light.
Village Tree Rules and Permits
Check with village hall before you take a tree down. Tree rules are common in this county, and in some villages even a tree on your own land needs a permit first. Yours may be one of them. A phone call sorts it out, and it's better to make it before the crew is booked.
Trees along the road edge and in the ditch line may sit in the public right of way. If you're not sure whose tree it is, ask the village about that as well.
Beach Park Tree Service Pricing, Cleanup and Firewood
Text a photo and your town to (224) 944-8652 and you'll get a written price. Photos are enough for small jobs. A big removal, or a batch of dead trees, gets a free visit first so the price is right. You pay one flat price that's set before the saws start, and asking for the quote costs nothing.
The price comes down to size, location, condition, access and whether the stump is included. How tree work is priced has the longer version.
Afterward the crew cleans up and hauls the brush and wood away. If you burn wood, say so and it's left cut where you want it. We're an insured crew based in Libertyville, and we also work in Wadsworth next door.
